THE STORY
Flushing, home to the sound of the 7 train which rumbles along its elevated tracks around the north-central pocket of the Queens borough. Its former destination, Shea Stadium, provided New York with a baseball sanctuary, adorned with hanging orange and royal tile. The Amazin’ Mets, who expanded into the National League in 1962, adopted their color-way from the vacated New York National League clubs that came before them. The grounds of Shea Stadium, which closed in 2008, have written the script for monumental Octobers. From the improbable 1969 Miracle Mets to 1986, where a Mookie Wilson grounder slid under the glove of Bill Buckner.
